Thoughts

Dad will be missed by so many, not least Neil, John and I. he was a great friend and support to so many throughout his many years. my favourite verse on friendship is from the book The Prophet by Kahil Gibran, also much loved by mum: On Friendship Kahlil Gibran - 1883-1931 And a youth said, Speak to us of Friendship. And he answered, saying: Your friend is your needs answered. He is your field which you sow with love and reap with thanksgiving. And he is your board and your fireside. For you come to him with your hunger, and you seek him for peace. When your friend speaks his mind you fear not the “nay” in your own mind, nor do you withhold the “ay.” And when he is silent your heart ceases not to listen to his heart; For without words, in friendship, all thoughts, all desires, all expectations are born and shared, with joy that is unacclaimed. When you part from your friend, you grieve not; For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain. And let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit. For love that seeks aught but the disclosure of its own mystery us not love but a net cast forth: and only the unprofitable is caught. And let your best be for your friend. If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood also. For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill? Seek him always with hours to live. For it is his to fill your need but not your emptiness. And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.

He's in my eyes my heart, my soul My hands, my pride and when I feel alone and I think I can't go on I can still hear him say "Son you'll be alright" Love you dad x

Candles

I have lit this candle in memory of grandad, a week on since his passing and it still doesn’t seem real. I have a couple of memories I would like to share in his memory. For me the most special bond grandad and I had was when I sang, almost without fail grandad would show up to every performance I had even though he had to drive 4 hours to get there! Grandad always told me how lovely my voice was and that I should sing more without being afraid! Every time I do sing now I am always reminded of grandad. Another memory I will always treasure - just a random evening after school, grandad was in the kitchen and I don’t know how we got on to it, but we got onto the topic of how to dance “properly” for example how to waltz and of course 14 year old me had no clue, so grandad taught me and we must have danced for an hour to some of his favourite songs including smile by Nat King Cole, a song which cheers me up every time I listen to it. I will always remember the holidays we shared together, and all the profiteer roles and eclairs grandad and I would have! As many of you know he had a sweet tooth! When I was little I remember when he came to stay I would wake up super early and climb into his bed and he would tell me all about when he was doing national service or when he ran a wine shop or when him and grandma took the express train to Paris or when they went to Wales on holiday with Dad, Neil and John. He probably repeated the same stories over and over but I loved hearing how proud he was to share these memories with me. It is also important to remember all of grandads formidable attributes. From his smile that honestly could cheer anyone up, to the generosity he had to go over and above for everyone. And never forgetting his awful but some how funny jokes! The sheer amount of friends and family grandad had just shows how loved he was. It is very important to me that his memory never fades, so please share your memories about him and light a candle.
